Hi all,
after a long time, I decided to continue my old City Project. In this thread I´d like to show you, what´s going on on my "Construction Yard".... Hope you´ll like it.

My latest Building for the city.....
Btw: I still need a good name for the city - every suggestion is welcome ;)
-
To fill the thread: here some older pics....

Looks promising. I would increase some of the light distances using falloff values (like .3 or .2 falloff) so that the city doesn't look too dark or "light blob'ish". You can play with "low lights" as I call them so you can balance out the right kind of darkness while trying to remove the light blobbing effect. A low light is a light with low falloff and intensity value. Like 150 intensity with a .2 falloff - might be good for some street lights.
As a world of darkness map, I know you want plenty of dark corners to hide in. But it's always good design to make sure people can see the graphics of the level design, while still creating strategic dark alleys and what not for those creepies that go bump in the night.
As for a name of the map. How bout:
Los Barnabas by Night
hehe.
-
And another building. Don´t wonder that the pics are a bit dark, but these are only pictures of my Construction map. When I finish a building, I copy the building into the mainmap. There I have other lights. The construction map is only for building and testing.

Welcome to the Excelsior Hotel.....

-
I like that though the lamps on the side wall could use a glow texture effect for their shades so to look like they are actually on.
-
I´d like that too, unfortunally I don´t know, how to change the texture into a glowing one. I mean how should I change only a part of the texture of the item into a glowing one.....
-
Is it a model? Did you use Milkshape to build the lamp? Or was it constructed with brushes?
If it's a model then separate the lamp shade group then assign a separate lamp shade material to it. I made a tutorial on how to create glowing texture effects stickied up in the 2d Art section so take a look.

If you want to get rid of the GUI, press f11. Just FYI. The second pic looks good, the first one could use a bit more lighting.

A new Hub under construction - the city grows...

-
These screenshots look really great.
-
Thank you. Takes a lot of work and much heart and soul. Unfortunally it takes a lot of time too, so I can´t say, when I´ll be able to upload a playable version...
But until then.....

-
This looks like it will be a really great map when it's done, looking forward to playing on it.
-
Glad to see you're still working on it. :o
-
Any updates?
-
Only some small ones. At the moment I´m placing NPCs with conversations to make the city more alive.
-
Oh please finish this project and release it... it looks awsome.
-
Any updates on this map? cant wait to try this map.
-
You still working on this?
-
Sure I´m working on it. But to finish the project - or more: make it playable, I´d need help - there is so much left to do....
-
What type of assistance you need?
-
I always need assistance in mapping - there are too many empty houses....
But one more house ist filled now....

Damn it i cant wait for this... wish i knew how to map...
-
One more....

Watch Javo´s tutorial vids - they are great for learning to map.
-
I'm looking forward to seeing this. I hope I have Internet when it comes out.
-
I hope, that I´m able to finish this project, before the WoD MMORPG will be released, but I´m really not sure. I´m working on it now for more than 3 Years and still have only 4 Hubs. I need a few days, sometimes more than a week for only one good map.
-
At this rate the WoDMMO going to be released in 2015 haha... i would not have my hopes up on that game, so i can guess you can finish it before WoDMMO.
-
Bad news - a disaster happened! My PSU died and in it´s last transgenic it fired some surges into my Mainboard and barbecued it :'(. I hope that my hds survived. Now I have a new PC and try to get the files from my old HDs. Fortunally a have a backup of my work on my webspace. Unfortunally, if I´m not able to recover my files from my old HDs, it´ll throw me back for a few months - so forget the car park and the last Pub.....
I´ll do my best to recover them....
-
Good luck, looking forward to seeing this map someday :-[
-
That sucks, dude. I hope the loss into too great. I understand how much time is put into map making. You just reminded me to back up the work on my map.

The loss was great, but after a few weeks of working, I´m back on the old state of my project - now it can continue
-
Awesome news.
-
I finally got this project, as well as Mgust's on the front page of Planet-Vampire. Let me know how else I can help promote the projects.
-
Ah publicity! I feel important! *bathes in it* ;D
-
Sorry to hear about the computer crash. I liked that car park. Are those textures from Bloodlines?

Everything´s fine. I restored the whole work and the car park was one of the maps I saved on my webspace. And yes, the most of my textures are from Bloodlines.
-
Yo Barnabus, can we get an update? 8)
-
Atm, I´m working on a Hospital and some Stores and other Interior for the Mainhubs. Didn´t visit this forum for a while - where are all the pics I posted?
-
The pics appear to have been hosted on your site that doesn't seem to exist any more. Good to get an update though)
-
At least I grabbed the pics up while I could and put them on e-mods.net's facebook page here:

No bigger Updates these days, because I have a lot of trouble with embrace, I was not able to solve yet. Maybe someone can help me: When I try to work at a map, I´m not able to choose anything with a mouseclick. Also I´m not able anymore to create a brush. It´s like my left mousebutton is dead, but only at the map. I can´t even choose a texture. The only thing that works with the left button, is moving around the map with holding the left button.
Oh - I´m not in clean mode.... but it acts like that.....
-
Did your preferences get altered. Go to Edit>Preferences from the top menu bar in Embrace. Attached to this post is an image of how I usually setup my Embrace preferences. You may want to run Embrace as admin from the shortcut - right click then choose "Run As Admin".
-
No, my Prefs were not altered and I run it as admin. I don´t know, why this happened. I also treid to reinstall Embrace. I got a similiar Problem with the map editor for Shadowrun returns. I also tried to use another mouse.
-
Virus scanner? I ended up having to uninstall Avast because now it's starting to cause issues with the SDK tools and I don't put up with that.
-
Found it. It´s my mouse. After trying nearly everything I could imagine, I tried to strangle my mouse totally frustraded. While strangling it, I clicked all 7 buttons the same time - and then it worked again..... Don´t know why..... ???
-
7 buttons? What kind of mouse is that?

Any updates? I was also messing around with GTKRadiant, which can do all the Quake maps. It imports and exports Redemption .maps just fine and appears to be more stable. You tell GTK that you're doing a quake 2 map and point it to the Redemption directory. The textures go into the "textures" folder within the extra folder it creates. The map I was experimenting with has to be retextured though (Bloodlines port), I haven't messed around with a map created in Embrace yet.
