You won't have to use a hex editor to change the names of the textures if you load your copied model into MilkShape, and then assign your modified textures to the model in the same groups the original used. They will already be applied in the correct positions to the model - you won't have to make any adjustments. Javokis's MilkShape tutorials can show you how to use the program if you're not familiar with it.
