*Following the Thread of Emod Development*

I know what you mean Javo, i thought it was some issue with GigaPack HighPoly and HighRes... i had extreme lag when killing a character or many, but my old Laptop which is a Compaq has 3Ghz, 768Ram and a old old 128MB ATi 9000 can run Redemption equally to my 8800GT, same frame rates... but its the damn 8800GT, my old ATi 9000 shows slightly less Lag than the 8800GT.

I thinking of building a New PC too, maybe ill go with AMD/ATi this time since their prices are really low, and all this years i have heard if you go by Gaming choose AMD... but i never understood or trusted their low frecuency CPU`s, since AMD CPU`s has always been slower on Clock, but now that there is the multi CPU PC`s i think i have come to trust AMD, i have always heard AMD had HyperTransport which is some kind of high bandwidht for Ram and CPU, but also their dual or triple CPU`s are even faster clock than Intel.

The only thing that pisses me off is that you can never have the ultimate or at least keep upgrading your PC since Intel keeps releasing newer and newer Sockets!? P4 486, Core2 775, I7 1336 and guess what? they plan to release a new socket for i5! Sons of a...

Im also stuck with this frigging CPU Which is a Good one but all CPU get old... what makes it worst is that since its a Server it uses Double 3.60Ghz Xeon Irwindale Socket 604, and you know how many CPU were made with that? just 4... and if it wasent enough they still cost from 500=800 USD each depending on the Speed, supposedly they are far much pure than regular Desktop CPU in regard of their Silicon and uses more Gold transistors... so they are quite expensive when you can just grab a Frigging I7 instead, but im stuck with this Socket??

So thats it... i7 is still too Expensive, since they cost from 250=300 USD... did i mention that in Mexico everything is much expensive in comparison? the exchange rate is 13.3 pesos for each Dollar and they raise the prices of all american products by 20=50 percent, dealing with a average salary 200 pesos a day or 15USD...

I will go by AMD/ATi this time since their prices are quite reasonable, the only thing i dont like about ATi is their Driver Support... IT SUCKS BIG TIME? you have to wait years for the GPU to actually grab a hold of its true potential.

So i plan to build my next PC keeping in mind Upgrades like the CPU, Ram and many PCI=E Slots:

GIGABYTE GA-MA780G-UD3H Hybrid ATI3200512MB
PHENOM X3 8650 2.3Ghz
4GB Ram
PowerColor HD 3650 512MB DDR2
WinXP (Ill try 64 too)

Im getting tired of damn mother boards that dont have 2 PCI=E slots, they are so RARE here in MexSHITco, but i seen tons of Motherboards with 1,2 or even 3 PCI=E 1X?? what the hell are those 1X slots for?? nothing fits in there? and whats the point of having 3 of those bastards? what the hell do thet do? why not instead stack the whole mobo with 16X and couple OLD Pci? GEESH?

I cant wait for Hydra Engine im so sick of SLI and CrossfireX, the damn mobos who do have double PCI=E dont support either SLI OR CRossfire?? this is ridiculous? when HydraEngine is released it will render CrossFireX and SLI OBSOLETE, no need for bastards that only give shitty 50percent perfomance and you could even pair an old FX5200 with a nice 9800GTX2 or a Radeon 9000 and a HD4850, as long as they both use the same Driver you can stack them up, even AGP, PCI and PCI=E playing together (i just once saw a Mobo with all 3 slots, never seen one after).

Interesting choice for a chipset there Lobo. Just looked it up:

http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/chipsets/7-series-integrated/Pages/amd-780g-chipset.aspx

Comes with integrated Radeon HD, but can be "Crossfired" with an additional Radeon card. On the down side, Crossfire support on this mobo only works with Vista. Will it work with Windows 7? It's probably safe to say yes. Personally, I'd go for the AMD 790X or 790FX (Not the G or GX series) chipsets.

I may just buy that Radeon HD 4870 as the first stage of upgrading to a new computer. Dark Lobo, be sure to google your chipset before buying the mobo. You may be surprised at what limitations the chipset has, which is pretty much what makes up the whole motherboard. I always research the chipsets nowadays. I was a n00b when I first built this computer, but I'd say I can make much more informed decisions these days.

My rig is just about a year old now. I have a Phenom 9500 processor which works just fine for Redemption. Seeing how both of you have had terrible results using the higher end Nvidia cards, I'll likely also go ATI. Other than my old 9800 that ran really hot, I've always liked ATI cards. I just bought 8gb of ram so it'll be a while until I get a new video card because it also means upgrading my PSU, it's only a 300W. My current 8500GT is laughable but it came with this system that I got for a good price on clearance when my last two Nvidia 7800GTX cards on SLI died within a week of eachother then I got mad and took a hammer to the rest of the rig so... You can even alt tab with ATi, with nVidia you cant or game will crash, so stay ATi! they are cheaper and faster, just remember their drivers are really bad...

The only thing that is bad is the catylist control center. ATI drivers have gotten better since the merge with AMD.

BTW: I can alt+tab with my 8800gts.

It stops working in June of 2010. If your computer would work with Vista, it should also work with W7. The final release of W7, the paid license, will come out Oct 22nd this year.

I just RMA'd my ram. Hopefully should have them back by early next week. My Radeon 4870 arrived yesterday and I've been testing it ever since. Looks like it runs Redemption just like my Radeon x700 does, which is very good news.

Ok, seems nVidia SLI are a bit different from CrossFireX, Can someone Explain the advantages of CrossfireX over SLI? i heard in CrossfireX you can pair GPU that are not the same... i still dont know which models can be paired in Crossfirex, but SLI can only use the Same GPU... someone corrects me if im wrong.

Try google? I'm under the impression that CrossFireX is an ATI equivalent of nVidia's SLI. So I would think the same rules apply.
